Top 5 Most PvP Intensive Free MMORPGs
It seems like a lot of new games today have either very limited or no Player versus player (PvP) options, which can be quite frustrating for gamers who enjoy the thrill of fighting against other players. Unfortunately for PvP fans, the PvP doesn’t get much love in most mainstream games. Enormously popular titles like MapleStory and MegaTen don’t even have an ounce of PvP. Fortunately though, there are quite a bit of MMORPGs out there that still place a strong emphasis on PvP. The list below ranks the top 5 most PvP intensive free MMORPGs available.
#1 Aika
Aika is one of the newest free to play MMORPGs by gPotato and has some of the most epic PvP in any game. The game features up to 1000 vs 1000 PvP battles between the game’s various nations. What makes the game even more interesting is its variety of skills and potential builds. The graphics are also quite good.
#2 Twelve Sky 2
Twelve Sky 2 is a martial arts 3D fantasy MMORPG with four factions that are perpetually at war. Much of Twelve Sky’s late game focuses almost entirely on PvP combat. The game is based on the enormously popular Twelve Sky game.
#3 Shaiya
Shaiya along with Twelve Sky are Aeria Game’s two most ‘pvp’ intense MMORPGs. PvP in Shaiya is largely faction based along with a duel feature. Players can enter designated ‘PvP’ areas where they can openly attack members of the opposing faction without penalty. In terms of overall graphics and gameplay, Shaiya is nothing short of impressive. The graphics are top notch and closely resemble the visuals of the pay to play game Lineage 2. With numerous classes and varied gameplay, Shaiya is certainly worth checking out for PvP fans.
Although Perfect World isn’t really advertised as a PvP MMORPG, it has some of the most interesting and balanced PvP of any game. For those that haven’t heard of Perfect World, it’s a 3D Fantasy MMORPG with great graphics and varied character customization options. In terms of PvP, Players are capable of attacking each other anywhere in the game as well as duel. The game also has an interesting ‘territory war’ system where guilds can fight to control entire regions in the game.
#5 2029 Online
2029 is an interesting and fun Sci-Fi ‘RTS” like MMORPG by IGG with an intense PvP system. Players can literally attack each other anywhere in the game in an ‘open PvP’ environment. What makes the game’s PvP even more brutal is that upon death, players have a chance of dropping their equipment, so simply walking around outside town can be dangerous. Without a doubt, 2029 Online is IGG’s most PvP focused MMORPG. The only real drawbacks to 2029 Online, in terms of PvP is the low playerbase and level requirement to begin PvP (40).

Guild Wars PvP is crap, the only reason this list is here is because it’s the FREE games, go try a premium game like Darkfall or Asheron’s Call if you want good pvp that requires actual player skill rather than tab targeting and mashing 1-8.

Just a heads up, the article is titled ‘Top 5 Most Pvp intensive FREE MMORPGs’. Emphasis on the ‘Free’. Guild wars / Age of Conan are not free to play. They do have intense pvp though.

AIKA is a very good game both pve and pvp wise, basically members of your own nation can pvp you anytime but thats controlled through pvp points. (this keeps bots in check, imo if you see one, attack it till its health is low and let a mob kill it).
There are 5 nations and if you spot anyone in your nation who isn’t and ally, you can kill em for medals.
The aspect i like most though, is the relic raids. Just get your guild together, or join an already existing raid party, and try and infiltrate other nations for relics to give various buffs to the whole nation.

freaking twelvesky did that years ago… I dont wanna try twelve sky 2 because im afraid its gonna be a grindfest (i played twelve sky 1 when it came out and the level cap was insane).
But i loved games that PVP with a whole team mostly because its not just you boringly sparring against someone who spends more money than you buying better equips

@ johny 12sky2 isnt as hard to level as it is in ts1, the game relys to much on the ingame item mall. But I guess if you buy like 50-60 dollars worth of ap you can reach level cap with non stop grinding in like 24 hours. I dont recomend it though, aeria games is an extremely corrupt gaming company.

wold of kung fu has one of the best pvp systems ever lol and the guild system is beter then guild wars past lvl 20 all the grind zones are pvp games got great graphics much better then Shaiya its free to sign up and play new maps to grind on evey 10 lvls all the maps are diff great arena combat weekly events can set up your own shops coustermizable fasions gerat armour every boss looks diff can make your own skill to go with your own calss skills 9 wepon classes the pvp is amazing it just flows

Just something to mention – PKing is not PVPing. When I’m looking for a PVP game I don’t count those that simply allow PKing. I’m looking for war scenarios, territory disputes, not some level 80 killing 20s and calling it “PVP”. I wish these games would make that distinction. PK is NOT PVP!!!

I totally agree because if its just pking, mind as well go and play runescape and chill in the wild. Some really good pvp games are the ones with territory disputes were people actually make money if they control an area like in EVE or battlestar:galactica you fight to control the sectors with the best minerals or games along those lines. Ill let you know if i find a game like that thats free battlestar if free but if you want to buy a better ship you need either 600000 tylium(game money) or pay 20 bucks. In eve they have it where you can pay 450 mill isk(game money) to buy a time card which is awsome.

Aika is good but I was kinda disappointed that all the nations look the same.
The Pran system is excelent, it might be the only thing that kept me going when I got tired of the game.I think it got first place because of the 1000 x 1000 pvp battles so if you like that sort of thing this game is for you.

Lineage 2 has nice graphics and pvp but foreign farmers run the game. Also, if you don’t bot then you’re at an extreme disadvantage to half of the server.

just to let u know PKin is PVP period. Obviously u dont know what PVP stands for Jonesy. Player VS Player thats all it means. doesnt anywhereit say same lvl or close to the same fight each other just one character verus another character thats it so its not the lvl 80 fault if a lvl 20 is not high enough or unable to defend himself. True its not fair but its not the lvl 80 player fault neither that he stronger its the person who plays lvl 20 fault that the character is weak should have played earlier. There multiple games of peace and just social networking too. Plus you dont know if the lvl 20 is sayin stuff on whisper or world chat about the lvl 80 just because he or she doesnt help the lvl 20.

PKing is PvP and its the PvP that started MMO’s like Ultima Online and Asheron’s Call, GW/WoW have created some stupid monster that for some reason well, the reason being carebear gamers saying they don’t want to lose items because they will rage quit. GW pvp was the most repetitive and boring pvp I’ve ever played, the only reason “PKing has a stigma” is because of gamers like you =) Who want people to cater to their every wish and make it so PvP really has no risk involved which is why Arena/dueling based pvp has become popular which I must say, is absolutely retarded.

I believe i agree with this fella about what he is saying, PKing and PVPing is the same thing, and i do believe that it is because of the weaker and amateur gamers that games whose main attraction is pvp tend to fail very very quickly, because you weaker gamers or people not used to the harsh gameplay of pvp cry about dieing and cannot handle it, and don’t try to defend yourself about it either, everquests PVP servers failed because of people like you same with many other games.

I can’t understand why you people are saying guild wars isn’t PVP oriented. That game revolutionized PVP. Did you just stay in the PVE areas with the missions and what not? If so, you obviously missed out.
Guild wars allowed you to roll a PVP character so you never even had to PVE if you didn’t want to. The arena and guild vs guild format was incredibly competitive and amazing to play. It’s not about dueling or ganking people while they are doing their PVE stuff. It wasn’t about GEAR or GRIND. It was 100% PVP and it was amazing, can’t wait for guild wars 2.

Aranock Online is far better than any of these. It has real PVP that is limited to closely ranked players (within 4 ranks for guilds/clans and within 3 ranks for real death PVP where the winner gets all the items). Forget these games, I’m playing Aranock Online.

ok no offence but Aika i understand its a good PVP game but still you have to grind FOREVER just to get like lvl 50 once you get to 50 you need to spend FOREVER to get to lvl 51 and so on till you get quests again (which i think was 51 not sure but still) Aika would have been perfect if grinding didnt take forever and a decade just to get to the max lvl so you can play PVP

The best PVP mmorpg dosetn exist any more but it was Turf Battles guild pvp on island to own the island (when u owned u could farm minerals needed to upgrade gear) + pvp point system to rank u on the main site. also a map of nation wars it was the best and by far

Right now I’m playing King of Kings 3 and Runes of Magic. Both are free to play, and have a pvp. While Runes of Magic has its pve elements like raids and dungeons it also has battle grounds and areans. Where as King of Kings 3 is mostly about pvp. I love the questing system in KoK3, but I’m not high enough level to pvp in either game and was wondering which one(KOK3 or ROM) was the best for pvp.

Shadowbane’s PvP was the best system ever, if you want, try Darkfall, it has a siege/conquest system like SB’s but the pvp is all shooter style, no tab targeting, you have to aim with melee strikes, you have to aim and fire archery AND magic in 1st person mode, very much the best combat and easily the most hardcore/intense combat system i’ve ever seen. Also, the looting is 100% full loot, you die you lose everything in your inventory and everything you have equipped, rough game to get into but if you can handle it it’s the best one out right now. Massive siege system, I’ve been in battles on that game that had over 100 people on each side fighting for hours to destroy/defend clan cities.

This list and most others make me sick, mostly because there are almost no surviving pvp based MMORPGS left or made. When i googled PvP based MMORPGS all i get is crap like guild wars, WoW and lineage. Are there no mmorpgs where killing other players IS the objective…not at endgame, this statement completely Excludes Darkfall due to my being banned 3 seperate times on 3 different free trials 30 minutes after starting each one.

12sky2 is all about getting the Cash gears and spending alot of real money, its a nice game but AERIA GAMES F*cked it up whit too much AP selling, dont play this game unless its another company, AERIA sucks. trusth me, the game is fine, awesome pvp graphics not that all but still impressive, and many action tho aeria made it too based on spending money, lik, half your skills are cash needed, the Old labyrinth system was cool cuz you could farm for books and exchange for a rare skills. But aeria(…), disabled this and the drop rates for items are like 0.00,01%. Play it, try it, and take your conslusions.

Have to admit i’ve played a lot of the games out there and I’d have to say some of the best are Perfect World (although HUGE reliance on cash shop), Knight Online (kinda old though).
And the newest one i’d say is Pandora Saga. Free to play, minimal reliance on cash shop. You can level to top level in 3 days, 27 classes, lots of skills, open pvp areas w/ bosses like colony zone in KO, Castle siege, and 2x a day wars, 3 nations, guild wars, honor system like Aion where you can become Archlord (which is still open for grabs!)
That being said I just started Pandora Saga really into it. Max lvl is 55, can get 30 in first day. Easy grind, focus is on end game pvp.
My in game name is Invincible, I’m on Barbatos Server in Empire Nation, my guild is very hardcore about helping new characters. They found me at lvl 10 and got me up max level and doing pvp runs w/ them and wars. Great game especially when someone helps u level.
